Why am I so constipated?

Pregnancy hormones — combined with pressure on your digestive tract from your growing uterus — cause constipation. The hormone progesterone relaxes the bowel muscles, which slows down your entire digestive system. The longer food stays in your system, the more water your body absorbs from it, which leads to harder stools. Your uterus is also putting pressure on your intestines and rectum, slowing your digestive system down further.
